Alaska Commercial Fishing - Sockeye Salmon
Naknek, Alaska
Bristol Bay, Bering Sea
I spent the Summers of 2019 and 2020 working aboard the Sockeye Salmon Commercial Fishing Vessel 'Sea Too' in Bristol Bay, Alaska.
The 4 of us on board survived and thrived in rapidly-changing weather and unstable fishing conditions. We worked 20 hours per day, kept the motor running, caught fish, and stayed afloat to tell the tale. I have many stories to share.
2019 was spent in the Nushagak River system where drift setting is prevalent.
2020 was spent in the Naknek River system where combative "line" fishing is most profitable.
In 2 seasons I learned how to successfully read the tides, place nets profitably, repair and run a boat, overcome endless sleep deprivation, and cook the most delicious Salmon dishes. An amazing experience.
